OREANDA-NEWS. September 13, 2012. Siemens is Supersector Leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the first time, leading the category "Industrial Goods and Services". Siemens also won the top spot in the sector "Diversified Industrials". The company achieved its best result to date with 92 points (2011: 90) out of a possible 100. The Diversified Industrials category includes companies like 3M, General Electric, Toshiba and ThyssenKrupp. Yesterday, Siemens was also honored by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), receiving 98 points (2011: 97) out of a possible 100 in the independent ranking. "Being Supersector Leader is the highest possible award a company can achieve. Our strategy of being a role model and above all understanding sustainability as a business opportunity pays off. In a difficult environment, the credit goes above all to our employees worldwide, who are making Siemens a leader in sustainability," said Barbara Kux, member of Siemens' Managing Board and the company's Chief Sustainability Officer.

Siemens now generates more than 40 percent of its revenue with ecofriendly products. In fiscal 2011, the company's technologies cut CO2 emissions at customers by nearly 320 million tons. They are also saving customers big money. For example, a U.S. electric power utility expects the utilization of Siemens gas turbines – the most powerful and efficient in the world – to reduce its costs by some USD1 billion (net) over the course of their entire lifecycle. Listed in the DJSI since the very beginning (1999), Siemens has now captured the No. 1 spot in its industry for the fifth year in a row.
