OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2012. To celebrate the forthcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and its 150th Anniversary, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) is launching a new collection of retro mooncakes, reported the press-centre of Towngas. 

This mooncakes are designed to bring back warm memories, enabling everyone in Hong Kong to enjoy a happy and warm living everyday especially during the year’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.

150th Anniversary “Retro Mooncake Collector’s Box Set”

To mark its 150th anniversary this year, Towngas is launching an exclusive limited edition of “Retro Mooncake Collector’s Box Set”. Filled with six delicate mooncake flavours including the classic white lotus seed paste, Towngas has created new indulgent flavours based on Suzhou-style mooncakes from the Suzhou region. With carefully selected ingredients and not overly sweet fillings, Towngas has reinvented the Suzhou-style by replacing its layers of flaky dough with the popular thin Cantonese-style mooncake crust, giving a whole new dimension of flavour to mooncake. Besides the novelty flavours, the packaging of the box set is uniquely designed to elicit warm memories of the past using Towngas vintage-style posters. Each mooncake is also imprinted with one of the early Towngas products, making the set highly collectible with historic and commemorative value.
 
Osmanthus Oolong Tea & Lotus Paste Mooncake: With reference to the Suzhou-style mooncakes, this new flavour is accentuated with hints of the dainty fragrant Osmanthus flower and Oolong Tea, leaving a lingering floral sense of satisfaction. Coupled with an imprint of Towngas heritage lamp from Duddell Street in Central that is still in operation since 1864, it is a distinctive representation of Towngas growing together with Hong Kong for the past years.

Green Tea Lotus Paste with White Melon Seeds Mooncake: White melon seeds are common ingredients in Suzhou-style mooncakes. The original white melon grain seeds are paired with the popular green tea where both ingredients are perfect complements of each other. Its chewy texture and subtly sweet, refreshing flavour makes the lotus paste not so sweet. This enticing mooncake is imprinted with Towngas vintage gas cooker, a Western design from 1878 that integrated Eastern and Western culture and bought a new cooking experience for the people of Hong Kong.

Purple Sweet Potato & Lotus Paste Mooncake: Based on the Suzhou-style mooncakes, it is a low sugar, purple sweet potato and lotus seed puree with a hint of sweetness that are equally impressive. This mooncake is specially imprinted with Towngas vintage gas iron, making this timeless piece of gas iron to be cherished forever.
