Lukashenko, Berdimuhamedov Discussed Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2012. In a telephone call President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda.
The heads of state agreed that the two countries have achieved great success for the 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will be marked in January next year.
Good progress has been made in the implementation of the agreements reached during the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Minsk in April this year.
Alexander Lukashenko underlined the importance of the newly created joint Belarusian-Turkmen Business Council and proposed to hold its first meeting in Ashgabat in October, when the Belarusian delegation will participate in the fourth international investment forum.
The Presidents also discussed progress in the implementation of the largest joint project to construct the Garlyk mining and processing factory. Alexander Lukashenko confirmed Belarus’ commitment to quality and timely fulfillment of its obligations under this turn-key construction project. The Belarusian leader suggested opening a joint educational establishment at one of the Turkmen universities to train mid-tier personnel for the factory.
The two leaders are scheduled to attend the CIS Heads of State summit which is due in Ashgabat in November 2012.
