OREANDA-NEWS. September 06, 2012. The 12th session of Russian-Korean Commission for Economic and Scientific-and-Technical Cooperation took place in Moscow. Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Pavel Subbotin participated in the meeting, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Russian representatives were led by the Minister of the Russian Federation for Far East Development – the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far East District, Viktor Ishaev. The Korean delegation was led by the Minister of Planning and Finances of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Pak Che Van.

At the Commission meeting, the parties pointed out that economic relations between the two countries had been deepened and expanded, and gave their assessments of the current economic situation in Russia and Korea. The Parties also exchanged opinions regarding the main directions of Russian-Korean cooperation in commerce and investments, energy, natural resources, industry, construction, science and technology, agriculture and fishery, health care and medical services, tourism, small and medium business, statistics, public procurement, etc.

As pointed out by Pavel Subbotin, bilateral cooperation between FAS and the Fair Trade Commission of the Republic of Korea is productive and mutually beneficial, and on the already established basis the parties can develop and strengthen interstate and inter-branch interaction. Pavel Subbotin also outlined the main areas for cooperation between the agencies on competition law and enforcement.

“We pay considerable attention to public procurement!”, emphasized Pavel Subbotin. “For instance, FAS takes efforts towards progressive development of cooperation between FAS and Public Procurement Service of the Republic of Korea. As a result of negotiations, the agencies have reached arrangements to devise and approve a draft Memorandum of Understanding in the field of public procurement between the Federal Antimonopoly Service (the Russian Federation) and Public Procurement Service of the Republic of Korea, which will form the foundation of even more friendly and professional inter-branch relations”.

Relations between FAS and the Fair Trade Commission of the Republic of Korea were formalized by the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of the Russian Federation on Antimonopoly Policy and Entrepreneurship Support and the Fair Trade Commission of the Republic of Korea of 7th December 1999 and the Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of competition policy between the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy of the CIS member-states (ICAP), the Fair Trade Commission of the Republic of Korea, the Competition Council of the Republic of Latvia, and Romania’s Competition Council of 17th September 2003.
