MegaFon Offers 4G to Citizens of Kazan
OREANDA-NEWS. September 5, 2012. MegaFon provided access to 4G telecom services in Kazan. The capital of Tatarstan is the third city in the Volga Region whose citizens can use high speed mobile internet.
The main advantage of the 4G technology for a user is an immediate response (PING) and high speed data transmission. At the average, the response is two times faster than in 3G networks. The average data speed in 4G networks is 6 to 7 times higher than in 3G networks. Such speed allows MegaFon’s subscribers to quickly and in a user friendly way process “heavy” content, play online games, watch HD-video online and use conventional internet services.
The company’s subscribers can use high-speed mobile internet on beneficial terms for two months. Today MegaFon’s 4G modems with a special SIM-card and the “4G Starting” tariff option can be bought in the operator’s retail stores and internet shop at the price of 1990 RUR. The new modem can operate in most of the existing networks (4G/3G/2G). If a subscriber buys a kit in the period from August 30th, to October 30th, 2012, he/she will be able to use mobile internet services in 4G, 3G, 2G networks for two months without paying the monthly fee.
‘Even at the start-up stage, high-speed mobile internet is available in all regions of Kazan. The trial period will allow us to analyze customer’s expectations and determine the average consumption level to set optimal tariffs. Based on this information and the experience of rolling out 4G services in other cities we will be able to offer the users higher quality internet services’, says the Director of the Volga Branch of MegafOn OJSC, Alexander Grigoriev.
Kazan is the eighth Russian city after Moscow, Samara, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar, Sochi, Vladivostok and Ufa, where MegaFon provided access to 4G services. Before the end of the year the operator plans to provide 4G internet in Saint-Petersburg, in a number of towns of Leningrad Region and other regions of the country, and then the service will be available throughout the territory where 30 percent of the population of Russia live.
According to the company’s experts 4G network development will not only allow to provide a new level of internet services to active users, but will also have a positive impact on the existing 3G network and the quality of mass 3G internet. As the range of 4G devices expands the “heavy” content users will turn to using 4G access thus releasing a portion of 3G network resources which will result in 3G network speed increase.
