OREANDA-NEWS. September 04, 2012. The Concept of the State target economic program of development of highways of common using [public highways] for 2013-2018 has been approved. The corresponding decree was approved by Cabinet of Ministers on September 3, 2012.

The decree adoption will define the priorities and objectives of the development of public highways for 2013-2018 on the basis of systemic methods: a set of measures implementation of regulatory support, the formation of stable sources of financing road infrastructure, implementation of reforms in public roadways management.

The main objective of the Concept is to provide effective financing and development of an existing chain of public highways along the routes of international national transport corridors, improve of traffic safety, speed, comfort and profitability of transportations of passengers and cargoes, reforming of public administration system by public roadways.

In Ukraine, more than 170,000 kilometers of highways are in need of reconstruction and repair. Over 2010-2011 there were built and repaired more than 4,000 kilometers of highways (against 10 kilometers in 2009). Prime Ministe Mykola Azarov believes the pace of road construction should be increased five-fold so that to upgrade the chain of Ukraine's roads completely for 10 years.
