OREANDA-NEWS. September 03, 2012.   The improved program on maintenance of gas safety at Iron and Steel Works is implemented at “Zaporizhstal” JSC. Within the frameworks of the program, special-purpose inspections of performance of works on gas safety are carried out in the Company on a regular basis. Every day a five-minute meeting on a topic “Danger of carbon oxide (blast-furnace) gas” is carried out for the Process and Repair personnel of the Iron and Steel Works who serve the objects of gas-handling facilities for the purpose of the prevention of gas poisoning accidents. The target is to inform workers on the possible reasons of accidents during the performance of gas-hazardous works, how this can be avoided, the signs of poisoning with carbon oxide and necessary actions for first-aid treatment to the person injured.

According to the decision of the Iron and Steel Works management, for the purpose of assurance of the maximum safety for all the personnel who serve the objects of gas-handling facilities of “Zaporizhstal” JSC, 596 single-channel and 65 multi-channel gas analysis-meters will be purchased from the leading European producer for the total amount of around 2 million UAH.

“We consider that our primary goal is preservation of life and health of our workers. Iron and Steel Works will not save money on implementation of up-to-date facilities of industrial safety. There is nothing more important than human life”, — General Director of “Zaporizhstal” JSC Rostislav Shurma has pointed out.
