Fujitsu Upgrades JAL Group's Training System with Internet Navigware
OREANDA-NEWS. September 03, 2012. Fujitsu today announced that it has built an internal training system for Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) intended for use by all of the approximately 31,000 JAL Group employees. JAL began full-scale operation of the system in July.
The system is a version of Internet Navigware, Fujitsu's industry-leading e-learning system, which has been specially customized for the JAL Group. Not only will this lower training costs for the JAL Group, but it has also prompted the company to rethink its Group-wide basic training system, which will improve the performance of all its employees.
Background
As part of its plans to advance to a new level of growth, the JAL Group made staff training a key element in its medium-term management plan in FY2012, with the goals of enhancing its basic training system, cultivating leaders, and developing safety- and service-oriented professionals.
To achieve these goals, JAL decided to rethink its existing e-learning system. In doing so, it wanted to lower the operating costs of the system while preserving links to information regarding qualifications and educational coursework of staff such as maintenance technicians.
System Features
1. Built quickly by a specialist e-learning team
Using the Internet Navigware e-learning system, a team of specialist e-learning systems engineers from Fujitsu Systems East built the system in only three months' time. This solution has a solid deployment track record and is easy to operate in order to accommodate the needs of most users.
2. Lower operating costs
This system can be used by all JAL Group employees in Japan and internationally, speeding up the time required to complete training, increasing the efficiency of coordinating training schedules, and reducing the travel costs involved in JAL's training.
3. Ties in with the JAL Mighty maintenance management system
For JAL's maintenance department, which runs a large number of e-learning courses within the JAL Group, information on the qualifications of maintenance technicians as well as information on the underlying training coursework must be up-to-date. By tying this information into JAL's proprietary maintenance work management system, called JAL Mighty, the maintenance department has real-time access to the latest information, which is constantly updated, in managing its maintenance work.
One of the required conditions for this project was that, no matter what, the e-learning system must maintain an unbroken connection to JAL Mighty for system updates. A seamless link, therefore, exists with Internet Navigware, enabling smooth execution of these system updates.
