Maithon Power Limited Enters into Agreement with Marshal Corporation
OREANDA-NEWS. August 31, 2012. Maithon Power Limited (MPL), a 74:26 Joint Venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has entered into a Comprehensive Ash utilization Program through an MoU with Marshal Corporation Limited (MCL). MCL is a renowned domain expert and is engaged with Calcutta Electric supply Corporation, WBPDCL for ash evacuation, transportation, export and other modes of utilization since 1972. MPL has recently commissioned its 2 coal-fired units of 525 MW at Maithon in Jharkhand.
The MoU between the MPL and MCL was signed off on 22nd August, 2012 at Maithon Power Station. Salient features of the MoU are as follows:
MCL will set-up the Ash Utilization System on Build-Own-Operate(BOO) basis.
MCL to enter into tie-ups with large cement Companies for consumption of ash generated at MPL
The following Units to be set-up under the Package:
Classifier for separating finest ash particles from coarse granules.
Ash Bagging Systems, day storage silos and accessories.
Ash-Brick and Paver Plant.
The initial capacity of Ash consumption would be 500 tonnes/day, which would be scaled up to 1500 tonnes/day within 3 months.
Speaking on the initiative Mr. Bhaskar Sarkar, CEO, MPL said, "MPL is committed to sustainability and environment conservation. The MoU with MCL will ensure comprehensive utilization of ash including facilitating value-added cement components like brick and paver block making arrangements. Further, through this initiative, MPL would be generating employment opportunity for the community residing around its area of operation. This is going to be a scalable and replicable model, to be followed elsewhere in Tata Power."
As part of the MoU, the Company would be engaging workmen from the communities around its area of operation, thus creating livelihood for them through this initiative.
