Moldova Has no Sights of Recession
OREANDA-NEWS. August 31, 2012. This was stated by Vice-premier, Minister of Economy to journalists as commenting on NBM President Dorin Dragutanu’s apprehensions about possible recession of the economy this year. As Valeriu Lazar has said, the recession can be spoken about if the decline of rates the economic growth will be registered 3 quarters in a row.
According to the Ministry, Moldova’s economy has seen the slowdown only. He reminded that GDP grew 1% in Q1, 2012. As preliminary information of the Ministry of Economy shows, a GDP growth in Q2 is expected to be bigger than in Q1 and within the first half-year of 2012 GDP will grow more than by 1%.
As he stressed, a situation in the industry displayed visible signs of recovery and the decline made up 0.3% following the first half-year whereas in Q1 2012 it was 3.4%. According to Valeriu Lazar, information on GDP for the first 6 months of 2012 is planned to be published by the National Bureau of Statistics on September, 15.
He has stated that the Ministry of Economy keeps its projection for GDP of Moldova growth at 3% for 2012. The Vice-premier, Minister of Economy has said that main risks root in the agricultural sector, which was severely affected by the drought. At the same time, some losses of growers will be covered by higher prices for their crop.
