Fujitsu Releases New Wide-Voltage, Low-Power 8-bit Microcontrollers
OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2012. Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe (FSEU) today announced the expansion of its “New 8FX” family of high-performance 8-bit microcontrollers to include12 products each from the 64-pin MB95770 series and the 80-pin MB95710 series, both of which feature LCD control and advanced analogue functionality. The MCUs support a wide range of operating voltages from 1.8V to 5.5V. Typical applications include battery-powered healthcare devices such as blood pressure and blood glucose level meters, home appliances including washing machines and air conditioner indoor units, as well as FA devices such as thermometers and pressure gauges. Sample quantities of these new products will begin shipping today.
The 64- and 80-pin packages of the MB95770 and MB95710 series are available with up to 60KB of embedded flash memory. In addition to featuring LCD control functionality supporting up to 224 and 288 segments, the two series are equipped with peripheral circuits such as various timers, communications functions, high-precision 12-bit A/D converters and analogue comparators that are useful for general-purpose applications. Employing these new low-cost, low-power microcontrollers, will enable manufacturers to reduce the number of system components required in healthcare devices and other battery-operated equipment.
The wide voltage operation range from 1.8V to 5.5V allows other implementation scenarios as well, including 3V or 5V power supply circuit boards for the HMI (human machine interface) of washing machines, indoor air conditioner units and other applications. Moreover, the new products can be used as power supply control microcontrollers that help reduce energy consumption by managing the system’s power supply.
Product Overview
1. LCD control functionality
The new products are equipped with control functionality necessary for LCD displays. The MB95770 series features display control support for up to 224 segments, while the MB95710 series can control up to 288 segment displays.
2. Embedding external components reduces number of components
Since these microcontrollers feature an internal CR oscillating circuit that runs the operating clock, a low-voltage detection circuit that detects a drop in voltage, an analogue comparator and an event counter that is essential, for example, for blood pressure meters , this eliminates the need for an external oscillator and a reset IC is eliminated. This contributes to the reduction of external components. The CR oscillator has a precision level of ±2%.
3. Communication interfaces
To communicate with other modules of a system or external system components, the microcontrollers feature three independent channels of USART which can establish serial communication in asynchronous (UART) or synchronous (SPI) operation mode. In addition, an I2C interface for communication with other ICs on the same system board is available.
4. High-performance flash memory with industry-leading re-write/readability
The microcontrollers feature industry-leading high-performance flash memory capable of 100,000 re-write/read cycles. Because the microcontrollers can rewrite data during programme execution, it is possible to eliminate the need for external EІPROMs. A flash security function also protects the customer's software from unauthorised external programme access.
