OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2012.  Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. and Furukawa Techno Material Co., Ltd., (Headquarters: Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Toshio Tosaki; Capital: 300 million yen, 100% subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.) announces sale from August 28 of Ichijikan Pipe [one-hour pipe] (Product No. IP39, 75, 104), a fire prevention kit for steel cable conduits that penetrates fireproof compartmented walls and floors within buildings. The product is expected to generate sales of 200 million yen in FY2013.

Background

The Building Standards Act demands that the penetrating part of fireproof compartmented walls and floors set up inside buildings for every given area must be installed with a one-hour fire resistant, fireproofing measure that is certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

The Company sells Nijikan Pipe, a fireproofing kit for steel cable conduits to be installed with metal fixtures and heat-resistant sealing material applied from both ends of the conduit, but the market demanded products with easier installation. The Company has now developed and commercialized Ichijikan Pipe, a low-cost sheet-wrapping method easily installed by cutting the required length from a rolled sheet, wrapping around one end of the steel cable conduit pipe exposed from the wall (or from or on the floor), and affixing with a cable tie.

Product Details

To facilitate installation, soft heat-expanding sheeting (Rokumaru Sheet) was developed. As shown in the figure on the right, this is wrapped around the end of the steel cable conduit encircling the cables and blocking off any gaps. The soft Rokumaru Sheet easily fits over the penetrating cables and their unevenness, and can be installed without gaps over bends and branching of cables close to the end of the conduit tube, providing stable installation quality and protection against the spread of fire.
