Eni Signs Memorandum of Understanding with City of LAquila
OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2012. On the annual Celebration of the Celestine Pardon, the Mayor of L'Aquila, Massimo Cialente, and the CEO of Eni, Paolo Scaroni, introduced the project "Starting Afresh from Collemaggio" that will launch a significant restoration plan of the Basilica and a project to make the Collemaggio site more environmentally friendly.
In keeping with its own corporate culture and identity, Eni has partnered with the municipality and the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio and its environmental context have been identified as one of the most significant symbols, which most eloquently represents the values of the city.
The project "Starting Afresh from Collemaggio" has a special meaning and significance that goes beyond the restoration of the monument, as Collemaggio from its very origins is an archetypal symbol of the city's economic vitality. So rebuilding and securing the Collemaggio complex will send a strong signal of a new beginning that will revitalize the entire city.
Consistent with the principles of sustainability that Eni promotes, it became a partner in the restoration through an intervention model already used with great success in the past around the world. Eni will collaborate in the restoration by providing the resources necessary to prepare the final design of the monument. It will also provide the city with its technical expertise, project management and management models.
The project is planned in two stages: an initial planning stage, which will involve the municipality and the Superintendence and which will identify and describe the individual executive plans. Afterwards a second construction stage to implement the plans – after the finalization of the performance agreements – with the aim of restoring the Basilica and promoting not just Collemaggio but also the cultural history of the site.
