OREANDA-NEWS.  August 28, 2012. According to the Ministry of Economy, investments in its development accounted for USD 600 mln. in January-June, 2012.

Out of the total sum of investments made since the launch of Port of Giurgiulesti, USD 48.7 mln. were invested by Danube Logistics, the port’s general investor, owner and operator. Trans Cargo Terminal, constructed the grain terminal in the port, invested USD 7.3 mln.

A number of workers of residents of the port have made up 309 people as of July, 1, 2012 against 270 specialists registered the year before. The biggest number of specialists is employed by Danube Logistics and makes up 116 people. Trans Cargo Terminal has created 76 jobs and Trans Bulk Logistics did 35 ones.

The territory of Giurgiulesti International Free Port amounts to 120 ha and has been given a status of the free economic zone. At present Giurgiulesti Port homes the oil grain and freight terminal, which allows importing building equipment and materials, the vegetable oil transhipment terminal, container terminal and general freight terminal.

Thanks to its locations on the Lower Danube and sufficient depth reaching 7 meters, the port is capable to accept both: river and sea vessels. Thus, Port of Giurgiulesti is the only direct transhipment and distribution sea-river point in Moldova, being at the same time a regional transport node on the border of Moldova and the European Union providing access to the road, railway, river and sea communication.
