Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu FSAS Acquired Certification for ISO 22301
OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2012. Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu FSAS Inc. today announced that their maintenance services business in Japan for customer IT infrastructure acquired certification for ISO 22301(1), the international standard for business continuity management systems (BCMS), by a third-party certification body on August 24, becoming the first organization in the world to do so.
Background
The Great East Japan Earthquake and the Thai floods of last year had a significant impact on the day to day activities of many companies, including those in Japan. In addition to natural disasters, preparing for a variety of other risks to business continuity—terrorism, cyber-attacks, and the spread infectious diseases, such as new strains of influenza—has become an important corporate management issue.
In these circumstances, business continuity management has received considerable attention as a technique to promote continued operations in the face of unexpected disasters or accidents. Since the BS 25999(2) management system standard was first introduced in the UK in 2007, other countries have begun to engage in standardization efforts. On May 15, 2012, the ISO 220301 standard was issued as an international standard for business continuity management systems.
