OREANDA-NEWS. August 27, 2012. The chemical industry in China saw its profit fell 18.9% YoY to RMB 155.8 billion in the first half of this year, according to figures released by the National Development and Reform Commission.

The fertilizer industry realized RMB 21.3 billion in profit in the first six months, 15.5% more than that in the same period of 2011.

In the first seven months, the chemical industry’s value-added output grew 11.9% YoY, but the growth was 3.4 percentage points lower than that in the corresponding period of last year.

During the period from January to July, the output of ethylene decreased 3.8% YoY to 8.78 million metric tons, and those of plastics in primary form grew 9% to 30.5 million metric tons.

The country’s synthetic rubber output increased 5% to 2.14 million metric tons during the period and its synthetic fiber rose 10.1% to 19.56 million metric tons.

In the first seven-month of this year, China produced a total of 15.17 million metric tons of caustic soda, reflecting a YoY increase of 3.7%, while the output of soda ash, chemical fertilizer, pesticides and calcium carbide reached 14 million metric tons, 43.26 million metric tons, 2.01 million metric tons and 11.16 million metric tons, up 6.4%, 11.5% 22.8% and 6% from a year earlier, respectively.
