Volume of Cargo Transportation Declined 0.7% in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2012. A volume of cargo transportation declined 0.7% to 4 mln. 930,4 thou. t. in January-July, 2012 as compared with the same period of 2011 in Moldova. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the most drastic decline was registered in railway transportation: 12.5% down to 2 mln.151,5 thou. t.
A biggest share of all cargoes loaded at railway stations of Moldova fell to ferrous metal and scrap and made up 22.8% against 22.9% in January-July, 2011; it was followed by crops and flour production (19.3% against 36.7%); and building materials and cement (24.2% against 15.7%). A volume of truck transportation the share of which made up 55% of the total volume of transportation grew 11.3% to 2 mln. 708.7 thou. t.
About 48% of freight were transported by carriers of Chisinau, 10.5% by carriers of Balti. Then follow the regions of Orhei (9.6%), Nisporeni (4.7%), Straseni (4.3%), Aneni Noi (4.3%), Singera (3.4%), Taraclia (2.1%), Soroca (2.1%) and Ialoveni (1.8%). Within this period it was transported 69.2 thou. by river transport, 8% down as compared with January-July, 2011 and 1 thou. t. by air, 17.5% up.
