Toshiba Wins Major Order for Retrofit of Ottumwa Thermal Power Plant
OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2012. TOKYO-Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502) today announced that its United States subsidiary in the thermal power generation business, Toshiba International Corporation (TIC), has won a major retrofit order from U.S.-based Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. for the supply and installation of components for a steam turbine renewal and the winding of a generator stator coil. All key equipment will be supplied by Toshiba Corporation. TIC, as prime contractor, will start installation and winding work in September 2014 and the order will be completed by the end of 2014.
The retrofitting project will improve the output of the steam turbine by around 14%*1. TIC won the order on the strength of the high efficiency and eco-friendliness of Toshiba's technologies.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency established guidelines on emissions of airborne toxins from power plants, including mercury, in December last year following regulation of CO2, a move that is spurring demand for retrofitting and the scrap-and-build of older, inefficient coal-fired thermal power plants.
