OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2012. The installation of the first of four main circulation pumps has started at power unit 1 of Novovoronezh NPP II (architect general and prime contractor is Atomenergoproekt, Moscow), reported the press-centre of ROSATOM.
A main circulation pump consists of the pressure body, electric motor, auxiliary systems etc. As assembled, the item weights over 140 tons.
The MCP installation started from putting the pressure body, which is the largest part of the pump, on its designated place (elevation + 14.50 meters). The installation of all four MCPs is planned to complete in 2013.
The main circulation pump pertains to the critical process equipment of the reactor building and is designed to circulate the coolant in the primary circuit: during one hour it pumps more than 25,000 cubic meters of water. MCPs also provides for cooling of the core in all reactor operational modes.
