OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2012. The pace of economic growth in Ukraine can and must be accelerated by active usage of transit potential of our country. This was declared by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov at a Cabinet meeting, summing up his working visit to Odesa region and familiarization with the progress of investment projects in the Odesa seaport.

According to Prime Minister, he have had very good impressions: " The Port gets new status: works for acceptance of deepwater vessels are being completed. The container transportations are vigorously being developed. There are being created the conditions for increasing of handling bulk cargo."

In general, emphasized Mykola Azarov, Odesa transportation hub actually aspires to be Europe's largest transit corridors from the southern seas to the Baltic States and Scandinavia.

"In general, we can and must speed up pace of economic growth in Ukraine by more vigorous use of our transit potential. Ukraine is located on the crossroads of major economic transport routes - let's use wisely our advantage," said Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Mykola Azarov emphasized that in recent years for economic development of regions it is done very much. This is especially noticeable in the cities hosted Euro 2012. But other cities also need attention. "Among them there is Odesa too. So, today Odessa revives, growing and developing. But this is only the beginning. This is one example of a 'platform of growth' which we should support in every possible way. And such bridgeheads should appear more and more every day. It's our task." PM stated.
