OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2012. DTEK Zaporizka Thermal Power Plant completed the technical re-equipment of unit No. 1. The retrofit cost UAH 493 million. The retrofitted unit will make the plant more environmentally friendly and efficient, reported the press-centre DTEK.

The official ceremony of the unit’s reconnection to the gridwas attended by Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Serhiy Chekh, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Oleksandr Peklushenko, and DTEK’s Generation Director Roman Serdyukov.

The unit retrofit increased its installed capacity from 300 MW to 325 MW, cut specific fuel consumption from 365 g/kWh to 340 g/kWh and reduced dust concentration in flue gases sixfold from 320 mg/m3 to 50 mg/m3.

“We have completed a large project, including the upgrade of the boiler unit, turbine and generator stator,” said Sergey Kurilenko, the Director of DTEK Zaporizka TPP. “Furthermore, we strive to improve the environmental performance of our plant and bring it in compliance with European standards. This is why, apart from the replacement of the unit’s electric precipitators, we have installed a digital process control system with incorporated flue gases monitoring equipment to control SO2, CO2, NОх, dust. The result achieved is a product of professional and coordinated efforts of our entire team.”

“After the large-scale retrofit unit 1 of Zaporizka TPP will be in service for another 15 to 20 years to satisfy the needs of the Ukrainian energy system,” says Roman Serdyukov, DTEK’s Generation Director. “From 2012 to 2015, we are going to invest about UAH 16 billion in development of our generation capacities. DTEK is planning to complete the retrofit of all its power units by 2020. The next step of the retrofit programme is Unit 3 of Zaporizka TPP.”
