Wartsila Hamworthy Strengthens Offshore Waste Treatment Reference
OREANDA-NEWS. August 10, 2012. Wartsila Hamworthy, the global leader in environmental and liquid cargo handling solutions for the marine and oil & gas markets, has won a contract to supply sewage treatment plant to Eiffage Consortium for an accommodation platform for the second phase of Total’s OFON field off Nigeria. The order is included in Wartsila’s first quarter 2012 order book, reported the press-centre of Wartsila Hamworthy.
Eiffage Consortium is constructing the platform from standard building blocks to be deployed in Oil Mining Lease 102, some 65km off the Nigerian coast, in water depths of 40 m. The platform will accommodate up to 140 personnel, generating around 45 m3/day tonnes of waste water per day.
The ST50C treatment plant has been designed to operate within harsh offshore conditions in both a hot and humid salty environment, where it will also be subject to sand-laden winds. Incorporating pumps, blowers and instrumentation, the stainless steel unit will be designed, constructed and tested at Wartsila Hamworthy’s factory in Poole.
“Wartsila Hamworthy has over 40 years of experience in the marine market and our market leading water treatment solutions meet all existing and anticipated standards” said Kevin Robertson, Sales Director. “We have built a number of references in the offshore market, whose technical demands are of a higher specification, and we feel this market is now recognising our commitment and expertise.”
The OFON II installation will consist of four new platforms, two production platforms, a processing platform and an accommodation platform most of the development is dedicated to recovering natural gas, which will be compressed and shipped ashore.
Deepwater developments are one of Total’s main growth avenues in Africa, particularly Nigeria, where the group operates the AKPO field in Oil Mining Lease 130. In addition, the offshore USAN field in Oil Mining Lease 138 is expected to come on stream shortly. Wartsila Hamworthy also won the contract to supply the inert gas generation systems for both of these projects.
