OREANDA-NEWS. August 09, 2012. POSCO`s various activities for employees` health management to overcome the intense heat are gathering attention, reported the press-centre of POSCO.

Pohang Steelworks has organized medical teams consisting of doctors, nurses, and industrial hygiene management experts to carry out medical tours from July 9th to August 27th at all factories.

On-site medical tour activities include medical treatment and health consultation, educational program for prevention of various summer diseases, checking on-site hygiene management status and providing guidance, and education on the importance of healthy everyday habits for a healthy summer.

Also, a nap room is in operation for night-shift workers who cannot rest well due to the heat, and 280 of ice-making machines and 750 of hot/cold water purifiers are installed to prevent diseases in high temperature working environments.

In addition, to keep employees` health, Samgyetang (ginseng chicken broth) was served at the company`s cafeterias on chobok (beginning of the first 10 days of the dog days). And red-bean sherbet was offered to workers on-site at the steelworks on July 27th, the day before jungbok (second 10 day period of the dog days).

Gwangyang Steelworks is also carrying out various activities for employees working hard on site in the extreme heat.

Gwangyang Steelworks has also organized medical teams consisting of doctors, nurses, and industrial hygiene management experts to carry out medical tours from July 23rd to September 10th at all factories for those who work in high heat areas.

Gwangyang Steelworks has arranged consultation hours so that all employees including those permanently station as well as day/night shift workers can all participate. The medical tour includes educational program for prevention of various summer diseases, checking on-site hygiene management status and providing guidance, and education on the importance of healthy everyday habits for a healthy summer. Also, physical therapy is being provided on the every evening of Monday and Thursday for employees` health.

Gwangyang Steelworks is also continuously carrying out on-site encouragement activities for those working in times of extreme heat. 766 of cold/hot water purifiers and 192 of ice-making machines have been installed on-site, providing high quality drinking water for those working in high heat areas, so that they won`t become exhausted from the heat and take care of their health.

Meanwhile, instead of maintaining indoor office temperatures of 26~28`C to participate in energy reduction efforts, POSCO has loosened the dress code to allow necktie-free attire, and instructing to take off jackets at meetings, leading innovative and environment-friendly ways to overcome the heat.
