OREANDA-NEWS. August 09, 2012. Qatar Petroleum (QP) took an active role in informing the public about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with its participation at the “Your Health First” event, which was held on August 3 at Souq Waqif, reported the press-centre of QP.

“Your Health First” is a campaign organized by Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) in association with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), and the initiative is supported by QP as a strategic partner. Launched only last June, the five-year campaign primarily aims to raise awareness on how good health habits and proper nutrition can greatly contribute in ensuring a person’s well-being.

The event at Souq Waqif provided QP with an opportunity to help spread the message about healthy lifestyle choices. The QP booth, which was manned by nurses from the corporation’s Medical Services Department, distributed leaflets providing information on asthma, hypertension, and the health risks associated with smoking, and the value of weight management. Roll-up banners focusing on these health topics were also prominently displayed at the booth.

During the event, QP nurses also performed physical checkups, allowing visitors to learn about their height, weight and body mass index (BMI). Blood pressure readings were also conducted for free to enable the visitors find out whether they are hypertensive or not. The QP booth attracted a large number of visitors, each of whom received a health calendar and a first aid kit as gifts.

“QP’s participation in the Your Health First event at Souq Waqif enabled us to help educate the public as well as highlight the wide range of health services that we offer to all our employees. We look forward to again taking part in a similar event in the near future to further promote the importance of preventive healthcare,” said Dr. Mahmood Abdulrahman Mahmood Al-Jaidah, Manager for Medical Services at QP.
