TITAN-2 Constructs Container Complex for Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage
OREANDA-NEWS. August 8, 2012. The works related to installation of safety systems for security engineering and technical means and access control point of the container complex intended for the storage of spent nuclear fuel are getting closer to their completion. Contract for the works is made with TITAN-2 Holding's company of – TITANSTROYSERVIC, LLC.
General Contractor of the project, the Northern Construction Department, JSC ("SUS", JSC ) has started the final phase of the building and assembly works at container complex for storage of spent nuclear fuel and works related to installation of safety systems for security engineering and technical means which are the final phase of construction. Within the frameworks of this work the holding subsidiary performed the installation of all the security systems including CCTV, access control, security and fire alarm systems. The systems will be commissioned by the client in autumn.
The container complex for storage of spent nuclear fuel consists of the special building and the facility under construction which is intended for shipment and receipt of shipping packages (OPO TUK-casks) where the following work is being performed:
• Arrangement of additional biological protection in the subdivision of utilization of spent fuel assemblies, the roof of the temporary storage facility covered with special fire-protection coating;
• Construction of railway tracks;
• Installation of engineering and technical means of security;
• Installation of physical protection systems at the facilities;
• Construction of transformer substation with power supply and communication channels.

The complex of systems for the dry storage and handling of SNM at Leningrad NPP is a pilot project. The technology for transfer of the spent fuel from the reactor RMK 1000 for container storage and further on shipment to FSUE MCC is unified and also applied to Kursk NPP, Smolensk NPP and FSUE MCC.
