TNK-BP Expands Khanty-Mansi Land Remediation Programme by 22%
OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2012. TNK-BP announces that it has expanded the scope of its oil-contaminated land remediation work in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug by 22% in 2012. The company has improved the efficiency of its remediation programmes through the use of high and ultra-high resolution satellite photography technology, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.
With satellite monitoring it is possible to track the current state of the land to select the most effective conservation measures, to optimize the planned programmes, and to make objective assessments of the quality of the remediation work. An integrated approach to executing environmental programmes helps not only to effectively address the task of remediating legacy land contamination, but also to minimize the environmental impact of current activities in the regions where the company operates.
Elena Kompasenko, Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment, TNK-BP announced that the company has expanded its pipeline replacement programme by 12.7% in 2012. “In 2012, the company has boosted investment in long-term environmental programmes by USD 8.2 mln and we’ve increased the pipeline replacement budget by over USD6.5 mln. The key success factors are application of the latest industrial safety and environmental technologies, as well as open dialogue with experts, environmentalists and regional leaders to work out the most effective solutions to our environmental objectives”, she stressed.
