Moldova Plans to Introduce Tax for Home-Made Wine

As the head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of alcoholic beverages Andrei Gurin says, it is provided for in a bill that is currently being finalized and is scheduled to come into force in 2013, he noted that in accordance with the document, the producers of home-made wine can be made without taxes for their own consumption to a thousand liters of wine.
If they produce more wine, including for personal use or for sale, they will be obliged to pay taxes on the amount above the limit. It is planned that local authorities will conduct a census of vineyards in the household, including those that grow near the houses.
Moldovan authorities explain their intention to introduce tax-limit on the amount of home wine with desire to reduce alcohol abuse and keep track of the production of home-made wine, which are consumed in large amounts, but ignored.
Experts estimate that about 60% of the total volume of consumed in Moldova wine is a wine of home production. In the domestic market only 15% of bottled wine is sold, and the rest is exported.
