OREANDA-NEWS. August 6, 2012. In Sochi.Park in London, mobile operator MegaFon presented innovative solutions designed specifically for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Visitors can learn about the technology for monitoring weather conditions with "MeteoFon", follow traffic congestion with a unique video surveillance system called "Safe city" and utilize a multilingual call-center that will provide Olympic guests with translation services by phone.

As the General Partner of the Olympic Games 2012, MegaFon is providing a high-quality next generation mobile network in Sochi, and is applying its technical capabilities and innovative solutions to ensure the comfort and safety of the guests of the Winter Games. The latest services and programs that are already being integrated into the infrastructure of the future capital of the Olympic Games are being demonstrated in the current capital of the Olympics, in a special MegaFon zone in London Sochi.Park.

MegaFon developed the project "MeteoFon" to allow for the continuous monitoring of the environmental situation and preparation of accurate weather forecasts in the key areas of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Special meteorological equipment is installed at MegaFon’s base stations that measure 6 key indicators of the weather every 5 minutes: air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, pressure and precipitation. In addition, the video camera can measure the depth of snow cover and perform environmental monitoring of the surrounding area on-line. The resulting information can be used for emergency prevention and for forecasting when preparing the sporting events schedule.

MegaFon is also paying special attention to security issues in the Olympic capital. Under the project "Safe City," approximately 1400 HD-cameras are installed near 700 important objects of social infrastructure in Sochi and Adler. The unique system of video surveillance allows for around-the-clock monitoring of the city’s main highways, buildings and popular tourist destinations. Data from the city cameras is transferred to the Monitoring Center through MegaFon’s fiber optic lines at speeds exceeding 10 Mbps. Professionals from the City Authorities and emergency services have immediate access to this information, which greatly increases their effectiveness in emergency situations. MegaFon is implementing the "Safe City" project in partnership with Sochi Authorities, regional services of the Ministry of the Interior, Federal Security Service and the Emergency Situation Ministry.

Together with the Russian software developer ABBYY and Sochi Authorities, MegaFon is working on a multilingual call-center that will provide Olympic guests with information in their native language and translation services by phone. The project is developed to ensure that the language barrier won’t hinder comfortable communication between Olympic guests from different countries. During the Olympic Games they can freely take advantage of special stationary phones with two handsets and talk using the service of interpreters from the call-center. Special information terminals in Sochi will provide guests with all available information in a wide range of different languages.

Mobile operator MegaFon is the General Partner of the Russian Olympic Committee and the General Partner of Russian Olympic Teams in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, as well as the General Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 and the Official Mobile Operator of the Sochi Olympics.
