OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2012. The Government will bar rise in prices for food. That was declared by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov during a working trip to Zaporizhzhia.

He said that due to difficult weather conditions this year in the Zaporizhzhia region would be harvested by 800 thousand tons of grain less than last year. Total in Ukraine it will be harvested grain yield by 8 million tons less. But this not in any way should cause a rise in prices for bread.

"Despite the fact that this year we will have a harvest by 8 million tons less than last year, food grain will be 1.5 times more than we need. Plus, we have established reserves: we currently have 1.5 million tons of grain in the Agrarian Fund, and in the Reserve Fund - 0.5 million tons that is we have 2 million tons of grain in a reserve. This is third of annual country's needs in food grain. What is the need to raise the price? We will definitely not allow. The price of food products and that are bread and meat, both milk and butter, will be stable," Mykola Azarov underlined, rejecting populist statements about what is need to raise prices for a flour and bread.

Prime Minister stressed that in contrast to 2003-2010 when due to weather conditions Ukraine harvested less crops than usually, now we have enough stocks that would enable carrying out a stable pricing policy.
