NEC Releases CSR Report 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2012. NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced the release of the "NEC CSR Report 2012," which discloses the practices carried out in pursuit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012, reported the press-centre of NEC.
NEC has issued the CSR Report to its stakeholders for their better understanding of NEC's CSR activities since fiscal 2005.
The Web based "NEC CSR Report 2012" discloses detailed information, while the "NEC CSR Report Digest 2012" highlights significant CSR themes in printed materials and PDF.

To Realize an Information Society Friendly to Humans and the Earth
The first main features are NEC's approach, values and case studies to realize an information society friendly to humans and the earth.
Establish a Safe and Secure Society
Initiatives to help recover from the Great East Japan Earthquake and develop a new smart community including a community development support system for residents in temporary housing using terrestrial digital-compatible televisions, supporting recovery of salt-water-damaged farmland using M2M (Machine to Machine) services, and contributing to disaster preparedness and mitigation through submarine earthquake and tsunami observation.
Address Climate Change and Environmental Preservation
This includes the progress of the NEC Group Environmental Management Action Plan 2017/2030, energy-efficient servers responding to the power-saving needs of the cloud computing era, and home energy storage systems to address power outages and shortages.
Include Everyone in the Digital Society
This includes the automated fingerprint identification systems improving quality of life and promptly solving criminal investigations in Brasilia (capital of Brazil), communications infrastructure supporting rapid growth of global data traffic, and initiatives to help eliminate the digital divide in farming villages in India through BOP (Base of the Pyramid) business.
Progress from Previous Year through the Stakeholder Review based on ISO 26000
The second main features include stakeholder review based on the seven core subjects of ISO 26000, an international standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) giving guidance on social responsibility following fiscal 2010.
Ten experts on human rights, labour practices, the environment, consumer issues, and other issues from NGOs and NPOs reviewed NEC's activities through dialogue with NEC's relevant divisions. The following progress is advised:

NEC is working to build a basic mechanism for human rights due diligence.
Labour Practices
NEC revised its CSR supply chain guidelines to extend CSR requests to second tier suppliers via first tier suppliers.
Community Involvement and Development
NEC made solid progress in ongoing support for the post-disaster recovery, supporting social entrepreneurs, and beginning work on BOP businesses.
NEC will continuously improve its CSR-driven management through stakeholder review based on ISO 26000.
