New Scanning App for iPhone Comes from Creators of ABBYY FineReader
OREANDA-NEWS. August 2, 2012. ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, document capture, and linguistic technologies and services, today announced ABBYY FineScanner, a brand new mobile application designed to quickly scan images and text using the Apple® iPhone®. Powered by ABBYY’s image-improving technology for portable devices, FineScanner offers a range of functions to enhance the quality of scanned materials, allowing users to easily create one-page and multipage files that can be saved within the application or sent to online storage services and Facebook®.
“ABBYY FineScanner virtually turns your iPhone into a handy mobile scanner, so you can get high-quality images of documents wherever you are,” commented Katya Solntseva, director of mobile platform products department at ABBYY. “This app simplifies the process of creating and sharing copies of everyday documents – such as bills, insurance certificates, prescriptions and more – and provides easy-to-use storage for all of them.”
Based on the ABBYY Mobile Imaging technology for advanced image processing on mobile platforms, FineScanner allows users to save both time and effort when working with scanned documents. It provides both manual and automatic settings such as brightness and contrast ratio, and also automatic crop frame detection, to achieve higher visual quality and better viewing of scans before saving. An intuitive interface makes work with application fast and enjoyable while on-the-go, making it suitable for mobile workers.
FineScanner enables users to create multipage files out of scanned or uploaded images from the device’s gallery by using the “grouping” feature. To save time, a set of quality-improving functions can be manually defined for any image from the group and then applied to the rest with a single tap. Additionally, a sequence of images can be easily saved as a multipage PDF document or a series of JPEG files. The final results can be stored either in the iPhone photo gallery or within the application, and, if necessary, shared with colleagues, clients and friends. FineScanner also allows users to upload their files to Dropbox®, Google Docs™, and Evernote® online services for effective archiving and back up. The files can also be sent via e-mail or printed directly from within the app (via Apple AirPrint®). Furthermore, the final JPEG files are easy to post on Facebook.
Corporate users and organizations can benefit from ABBYY FineScanner as an alternate entry point to an enterprise workflow system, allowing employees traveling for business to make reliable electronic copies of handouts and paper documents and pass them to their co-workers, partners or customers. Especially helpful this scanning application will be for those professionals who constantly deal with documents away from a company office – insurance agents, financial services sellers, lawyers and more.
