Klaipeda Port Makes Review of Cargo Handling in Baltic Sea Ports
OREANDA-NEWS. July 31, 2012. The aggregated throughput of sea – born cargo in Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal in January – June of 2012 totalled 20,3 million tn, the overall year – on - year change was 10,4 percent down. 16,9 million tn were handled in Klaipeda Seaport throughout the analysed period, the year-on-year change was -8,3 pct. or -1,5 million tn, meanwhile Butinges terminal handled 3,4 million tn, the year-on-year change was -19,4 pct. or -0,8 million tn., reported the press-centre of Klaipeda Port.
The highest increase in cargo turnover throughout January – June of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 was reached due to increased handling volumes of and raw and processed minerals and construction materials (+223,3 thou. tn yoy) and iron ore (+195,7 thou. tn yoy)
The most considerable drop down in cargo turnover throughout January – June of 2012 comparing with the corresponding period of 2011 occurred due to decreased handling volumes of bulk natural and chemicalfertilizers (-873,9 thou. tn yoy), crude oil (-821,7 thou. tn yoy) and oil products (-659,9 thou. tn yoy).
In terms of cargo groups the handling volumes of liquid cargodecreased by 15,0 pct. to 8 405, 0 thou. tn (41,5pct. of overall Port handling turnover). Dry and bulk cargo handling volumes decreased by 8,3 pct., the handling rates of this cargo category were 6 457,3 thou. tn (31,8 pct. of overall Port handling turnover). General cargo handlingvolumes decreased by 5,1 pct. yoy, the overall turnover in this cargo group was 5 422,3thou. tn (26,7pct. of overall Port handling turnover.
3 412vessels were reported to call Klaipeda Port and Butinges terminal within the period ofJanuary – June of 2012. 34 vessels (-19,0 pct. or less by 8 vessels yoy) moored at Butinges terminal. 2 394 international vessels (+1 vessel year-on-year) and 984 domestic ships ( the same number was recorded within the period of January –Juneof 2011) were reported to call Klaipeda Port.
Throughout the foregoing period of the current year the number of vessels calling Klaipeda Port was 3 378, i.e. more by 1 vessel than throughout the corresponding period of 2011. The number of passengerscalling the Portthroughout the analysed periodwas 150 757, i.e. more by 2,1 pct. or by 3 049 passengers comparing with the corresponding period of 2011.
