RZD Invested 224mn Roubles in Rail Infrastructure on Sakhalin
OREANDA-NEWS. July 31, 2012. Russian Railways continues to implement its investment project to modernise the Company’s rail infrastructure on Sakhalin Island. In the first half of 2012, capital expenditures on the project amounted to 223.9 million roubles, reported the press-centre of RZD.
The Company completed the reconstruction of two bridges: at the 274th kilometre on the Korsakov - Nogliki line and at the 460th kilometre on the stretch between Pobedino - Tymovskoye. In 2012, it is planned to reconstruct eight bridges on the Korsakov - Nogliki line.
Russian Railways plans to spend 594,600,000 roubles in 2012 on regauging Sakhalin Railways to the 1520 mm broad-gauge system used on the Russian rail network.
During project implementation between 2004 and 2011, 30 bridges were commissioned, Chekhov station reconstructed (Phase 1), by-pass routes of tunnels Nos. 22 and 23 built on the Shakhta - Ilyinsk stretch, by-pass routes at the 118-119th kilometres and 119-120th kilometres constructed and fibre-optic communication cable laid on the Pobedino - Onor stretch. In addition, the reconstruction of railway tunnel No. 21 was completed and avalanche protection built at its northern portal.
Since the beginning of construction, total investment has amounted to about 7.7 billion roubles.
