Moldova Reports 8.6% Drop in Number of Recorded Enterprises
OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2012. The effect of the economic slow-down some sectors are going through was materialized in an 8.6-per cent drop in the firms recorded in the first half of 2012, according to data by the State Registration Chamber (SRC).
On the other hand, both suspensions of the activity and the liquidation of companies decreased by 8.5 per cent. After an increase registered in 2011, when more enterprises were opened for the first time after the 2008 crisis, which prompted the Moldovans to start fewer businesses, a clear trend of diminution is recorded in 2012. Thus, in the first six months of this year, the number of registrations increased against the same period of 2011 only in May.
The SRC said that 3,256 enterprises were registered in the first half of 2012 against 3,560 in January-June 2011. This is a comparable figure to 2010. On the other hand, the number of the firms erased from the state register dropped by 150 to 1,612. This shows that the working enterprises do not face such serious problems that would prompt them to cease the activity.
The Chisinau territorial organization recorded most firms - 1,949, while the other territorial offices - 1,307 firms. The number of enterprises which stopped working or were reorganized is 2.5-fold larger in regions than in Chisinau.
As many as 162,360 enterprises and private entrepreneurs were registered in Moldova on 1 July 2012, of which over a half work in Chisinau. A number of 79,181 enterprises are limited companies, 66,404 private entrepreneurs, 4,808 stock companies and 1,490 state and municipal enterprises.
