EU Allocates EUR 12.3 mn for Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2012. As it was informed in the Ministry of the Environment, the decision on allocation of financial assistance to continue programs to support sectoral policies in the water was made by the delegation of the European Union after the evaluation of implementation by the Moldovan side of the objectives of the policy matrix of the program in 2011.
It was pointed out that the tasks are performed nearly at 86%. Agreement on funding of programs to support sectoral policies in the areas of water, 50 million euro worth, was signed by Moldova and the EU on August 13, 2009. The document provided for allocation to Moldova of 42 million euro in three tranches to implement the program.
The first one was 15 million euros, the second and third tranches were originally planned at 14 million and 13 million euros, respectively. Another 8 million will cover the cost of the pilot project for cooperation and technical assistance. The Ministry of the Environment noted that for implementation of the matrix of policies for 2011 they developed and approved a number of laws and regulations, including the Water Law and the Law on public water and sewerage services.
They constructed 10 km of water and sewer systems, the equipment is replaced at 37 pumping stations in water supply system and 11 pumping stations in the sewer system. It is planned that for the third tranche of the amount of approximately 13 million euro in 2012, the Office should develop legislation to support implementation of the Water Act, National Water Supply and Sanitation Project, supported by the World Bank, to provide access to water for more than 55 thousand people, prepare and publish study on the reform of tariffs, etc.
