OREANDA-NEWS.  July 25, 2012. CCCC has signed a contract with the Ethiopian Railway Authority for the EPC project of Weldya/Hara GebeyaMekele Railway, with a contract value of 1.5793 billion U.S. dollars, reported the press-centre of CCCC.

This is the first overseas railway project including a complete system won by CCCC, which will be designed and constructed in accordance with Chinese standards. Located in northern Ethiopia’s Tigray, the proposed railway has an estimated full length of 268 kilometers.

Along the railway will be the axis of the economic and transportation development of northern Ethiopia, including three intermediate stations and a main station used to transport ores and production goods. Undertaken by entities including CCCC China First Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., the project involves works including earthworks, bridges and culverts, structures, tunnels, rail tracks, railway stations and four systems (traction power supply system, power supply system, communication system and signal system).

Heads of the Ethiopian government, the Overseas Business Division of CCCC and heads of CCCC China First Highway Engineering Co., Ltd. were present.
