OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2012. In the first half of 2012 Russian Railways invested 3.66 billion roubles in its project, "Integrated Reconstruction of Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk" on Trans-Baikal Railways and involves reconstructing the track and electrifying the stretch between the two stations. In accordance with parameters of Russian Railways’ investment budget, 9.48 billion roubles will be spent in 2012 on implementing the project, reported the press-centre of RZD.  

The reconstruction of the first main track on the stretches between Sherlovaya - Zun-Torey and between Olovyanna - Yasnogorsk has been completed, including 10 engineering structures (bridges and culverts) with a total length of 235.2 metres. In addition, rail staff have moved into a 30-apartment house that had been commissioned at Mogoitui station, while the reconstruction of the receiving-departure yards at Zabaikalsk station has been completed.

Work is currently being conducted at six objects. Design work is being carried with regard to two objects - the electrification of the stretch between Borzya - Zabaikalsk and the second line between Siding 115 - Soktyi.

Work is also being carried out as part of two investment projects.

Investment in the project "Integrated Reconstruction of Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk (electrification of the stretch between Karymskaya - Borzya)" in 2012 will amount to 3.18 billion roubles. In particular, this provides for the reconstruction of the first main line on the stretch between Karymskaya - Borzya, the construction of the second track between Kharanor - Siding 83, a production base for the track maintenance section and service housing.

The second project is the "Integrated Reconstruction of Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk (electrification of the stretch between Borzya - Zabaikalsk, the development of Zabaikalsk stations)", under which it is planned to build a second line on the stretch between Siding 115 - Soktyi. Investment in 2012 will amount to 6.3 billion roubles.

In addition, this year it is planned to complete the electrification of the 99.3-kilometre stretch between Olovyannaya - Borzya, carry out additional work on the electrification of Borzya - Zabaikalsk, reconstruct the classification system for 1435 mm wheels at Zabaikalsk station and erect a 30-apartment house at Olovyannaya station.

The electrification of the stretch between Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk is being carried out in three stages. In 2011, the first stage saw the electrification of the 148.4 km stretch between Karymskaya - Olovyannaya. By December 2012, it is planned to electrify the stretch bewteen Olovyannaya – Borzya and in 2012-2014, the route between Borzya - Zabaikalsk.

The reconstruction of Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk in 2006-2007 was carried out within the framework of the investment project "Shipping Oil to China". Since 2007, work is being carried out under an investment programme to reconstruct the complex Karymskaya - Zabaikalsk and electrify the 247.7 km stretch between Karymskaya - Borzya.

Since the beginning of construction for the period 2007-2011, Russian Railways has invested a total of 25.9 billion roubles in the project.
