Moldova to Avoid Shortages of Sugar Imports into Domestic Market
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2012. As it was informed in the Ministry of Economy, the Office took the decision to support the circulation of the Union of Sugar Producers of the authorization to supply to the country every month to 5 thousand tons of sugar in the privileged mode. This proposal is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Moldova.
As the Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac says, according to authorities, the import of sugar under preferential regime during the period of maximum use will maintain the current price. Moreover, the ministry hopes that this decision will lead to reduction in sugar prices this year. According to the Union of Sugar Producers of Moldova, the need to import sugar is due to the low yield of sugar beet in 2011.
This year's stocks of sugar in Moldova amounted to 67.8 thousand tons, of which, in January-June, SG sold 52.6 thousand tons, 4.1 tons destined for industrial use, and about 9 thousand tons of sugar will be exported to Moldova, in accordance with previous agreements. According to Sugar, in the July-September, the consumption of sugar in Moldova will be 21 thousand tons forecast is based on data from 2011, according to which the specified period in the domestic market has sold about 20 thousand tons of sugar.
Producers also stated that sugar imports to Moldova to satisfy the requirements of the domestic market until the sugar market of the 2012 harvest in 2011 in Moldova was produced 88.6 thousand tons of sugar and imported 15.6 thousand tons in the past the average price of 1 kg of sugar from the manufacturer was 12.74 lei.
