OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2012. POSCO CEO Chung Joonyang attended the World Steel Association Executive Committee held for two days starting in Istanbul, Turkey exchanged opinions on development plans of steel industry and discussed major current issues with CEOs of the world`s major steel companies, reported the press-centre of POSCO. 

The Executive Committee is the highest decision making organization that decides on the major industrial direction of the World Steel Association such as sustainable growth, environment, and market development of steel. The committee consists of 15 members serving 3 years of term.

This Executive Committee was attended by President of Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation Xiaogang Zhang, Vice President of JFE Holdings Hajime Bada, and Severstal Chairman Alexei Mordashov, chairman of ArcelorMittal Lakshmi Mittal, President of Nipon Steel Corporation Shoji Muneoka, Chairman of U.S. Steel John Surma, and CEOs of other major steel industry to discuss the major current issues faced by the steel industry.

The World Steel Association has served as the most influential and authoritative association in the steel industry focusing on improving understanding and enhancing profits of the steel industry since its foundation in 1967. Originally started with members of 18 companies from 11 countries, it currently consists of approximately 170 members across the world including steel companies, steel-related associations, and research institutions.

The 2012 World Steel Association Annual Conference will be held from October 8th to 12th in New Delhi, India, while the meeting of Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the first half of the year was hosted by POSCO and Korean member companies in Seoul for two days from April 23rd.

Meanwhile, prior to attending the Executive Committee POSCO, CEO Chung Joonyang visited the construction site of stainless cold-rolled factory with annual production capacity of 200 thousand ton in the Izmit Industrial Complex of Turkey and encouraged resident employees and personnel.
