OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2012.   After a 72-hour testing period, the second hydropower unit of Sao Joao HPP (which is currently under construction) has been put into operation in Brazil. The generator for this unit has been manufactured and supplied by Power Machines.  

Earlier this spring the first hydropower unit, also fitted out with a generator by Power Machines, was put into operation. A contract to supply two generators each having a capacity of 39.69 MW was concluded in 2008. The contracting authority of the plant’s construction project was Eletrosul SA.

Moreover, since 2011 to 2012 Power Machines have produced and supplied spare parts kits for the generators to Sao Joao HPP in accordance with the terms of supplementary agreements signed with Eletrosul SA in September last year.

Sao Joao HPP is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul on the Ijuн River. Its dam height is of 21 m, reservoir area – 20.6 sq. km. In total, the power equipment by Power Machines being in service in Brazil has a capacity of more than 1700 MW.
