OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2012.   Power Machines OJSC has completed the manufacture of main equipment for the last, fourth hydropower unit of Svetogorskaya HPP within the framework of a large-scale project for comprehensive renovation of the Vuoksa HPPs cascade (TGC-1 JSC).

In the nearest time the company will start to install the equipment manufactured, which is to operate as a part of hydropower unit No. 2. Putting into operation of this unit is scheduled for November this year. Moreover, Power Machines complete the manufacture of main equipment for the last, fourth hydropower unit of Lesogorskaya HPP, also forming a part of the Vuoksa HPPs cascade, which is to be put into operation in 2013.

A contract signed by Power Machines and TGC-1 JSC in 2007 provides for the renovation of four hydropower units at Lesogorskaya HPP (each having a capacity of 29.5 MW) and four hydropower units at Svetogorskaya HPP (each having a capacity of 30.5 MW). The contractual obligations of Power Machines include the equipment design, manufacture, testing and supply, as well as installation supervision and commissioning works.

By now five of the eight units have been renovated and put into operation: Svetogorskaya HPP units under plant’s No. 3 (June 2009), No. 1 (July 2010) and No. 4 (November 2011), as well as Lesogorskaya HPP units under plant’s No. 1 (December 2009) and No. 2 (February 2011). Units No. 3 (2012) and No. 4 (2013) of Lesogorskaya HPP and also the second unit of Svetogorskaya HPP are next to be renovated.

As a result of the retrofitting of Lesogorskaya and Svetogorskaya HPPs the installed capacity of the Vuoksa cascade will increase to 240 MW and the equipment efficiency will raise by more than 30%. At the same time, the hydraulic unit’s service life will be extended to 30 years.
