Moldova Became Leader among Debtors of Gazprom
OREANDA-NEWS. July 12, 2012. This is stated by Vedomosti, a Russian news paper with reference to information provided by Gazprom. According to it, in 2010 the total debt of Moldova to Gazprom amounted to 72 bln. rubles (2,2 bln.), being 97 bln. rubles (USD 2,9 bln.) in 2011.
The growth of the debt is determined by Transdniestrian arrears for the gas consumed. Gazporm explains it can not impose on Moldova the same sanctions it has imposed on Ukraine and Belarus since if it reduces the gas supply through Transdniestria, it will tell on other consumers of the Balkan states.
Ukraine is the second to Moldova in the list of debtors to Gazprom. It owed for gas 58,1 mln. rubles. (USD 1,8 bln.) in 2011 and 71,3 mln. rubles (USD 2,2 bln) in 2011.
The third place was given to Belarus. Its debt made up 14,4 bln. rubels (USD0,4 bln.) in 2010 and 30,4 bln. rubles. (USD 0,9 bln.) in 2011. The total indebtedness of CIST states for Russian gas increased 36% within the last year to 205,6 bln. rubels, (USD 6,2 bln).
