Fully Restored Kalaturg Fish Market Opened in Tallinn
OREANDA-NEWS. July 11, 2012. The market is open every Saturday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm – making it the day of the week for fresh fish! The market also plans to turn the surrounding space into a recreational area for public use all week long.
Andrus Villem, the market’s manager, says that workshops will also be held at the market. Attending the opening day festivities was a team from the Information Centre for Sustainable Renovation, who will be arranging training days in future.
The newly renovated market now has an enclosed area, seating and a covered area for vendors measuring 10 x 5 metres. The existing children’s playground has been relocated and extended to provide the kids using it with a greater variety of activities while their parents take part in the training events and workshops.
The market will also be home to its own cafe, offering visitors fresh dishes from soups and smoked fish to other treats seafood lovers are sure to enjoy.
“We’re working with Tallinn Markets to turn Kalaturg into somewhere people enjoy spending their free time – strolling along the waterfront and soaking up the sea views,” explained Karin Tammemagi from North Tallinn District Administration. “We’ll certainly be making as much use of it as we can for special events. It should be one of the area’s biggest drawcards.”
