OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2012. In line with its philosophy of improving quality of life of communities living in and around its area of operations, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, launched a special program ‘Project Arogya’ in Mundra. As one of the first initiatives under Project Arogya, the members of Tata Power’s Mundra team organized free health check-up camp for school children of Vandh primary school in Mundra.

The camp was organized under the guidance and in close coordination with its subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Limited health department and Vandh primary school. Around 170 students participated in the drive out of which 87 were treated. Common problems diagnosed included worms, vitamin deficiency, calcium deficiency, fever, cold & cough, tonsillitis, headache, eye problems, ear problem and diarrhea. Amongst these, two cases of chronic deficiency were found and referred to specialists for further treatment.

Commenting on this initiative Mr. Krishna Kumar Sharma, Chief-Mundra said, “Being healthy is important for all rounded mental and physical growth of children and it is our endeavour to improve the quality of life of our communities around our area of operation. It is with this intention that we initiated ‘Project Arogya’ and set up health camps. We are proud to drive such initiatives for the well-being of our community.”

Tata Power follows a structured process of community engagement and development in and around its area of operation. As part of its initiatives, the company conducts a community satisfaction index (CSI) on an annual basis to take community’s feedback. The CSI of 2010-11 has identified the need to work rigorously on improving the health and educational facilities in the catchment area. In response to the same a Holistic Programme on health-care- ‘Project Arogya’ was launched by the company.
