Remittances from Aboard Grew 2% in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2012. As the National Bank of Moldova informs, this May the remittances amounted to a record sum of USD 120.89 mln., 2.6% (USD 3.08 mln. ) up as compared with last May.
In the structure of remittances in forex about 38.5% fell to USD, 39.2% to EUR and 22.3% to RUB in May, 2012. Last May those indicators made up 40.6%, 45.3% and 14.1%. respectively. According to NBM, remittances via rapid money transfer systems made up USD 456.01 mln. in January-May, 2012, against USD 437.71 mln. in the same period of the past year.
In 2011 remittances from aboard in favor in individuals made via banks amounted to USD 1 bln. 453.79 mln., 16.9% up within the year. The greatest monthly sum of remittances of 2011 fell to September and made up USD 143.38 mln, with the least sum falling to January and being USD 71.51 mln. In the structure of remittances in forex about 42.7% fell to USD, 41.2% to EUR and 16.1% to RUB in 2011.
The biggest receipts in Moldova come from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, remittances from Moldova’s labor migrants amount to 20% to 30% of GDP of Moldova. The all-time peak of the volume of money transfers to Moldova made in favor of individuals via commercial banks was recorded in 2008 when the sum amounted to USD 1 bln. 660,09 mln. within the year.
