QP, IAEA Conduct Workshop on Radiation Safety
OREANDA-NEWS. July 06, 2012. The HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate of Qatar Petroleum organized today a workshop on radiation safety together with experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reported the press-centre of QP.
Attended by over 50 safety and environmental professionals from the Ministry of Environment as well as the energy sector, the workshop focused on the most important projects of technical cooperation between the State of Qatar and the IAEA.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Saif Saed Al-Naimi, Director of QP’s HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate, welcomed the team of experts from the IAEA and he highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and international cooperation as way of moving forward.
“This workshop helps to promote environmental protection and preservation, which represents an essential pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030. In addition, it would also contribute in protecting the industrial environment in line with the sustainable development plans which the directorate is also focused on,” said Mr. Al-Naimi.
The two-day workshop was conducted by IAEA experts who discussed various topics related to the field of radiation safety and environmental protection in the industrial sector. Delegates attending the workshop also covered a variety of topics including the proper ways of dealing with Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM), which are produced during the drilling and extraction of oil and gas.
In addition, the workshop also provided a good opportunity for the participating institutions and companies to present their initiatives, suggestions and opinions on various topics related to radiation safety as they exchanged experiences with other specialists in this field.
