Steel Sheet Piles of WISCO Applied in Sewage System in Wuhan
OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2012. 1200 tons independently-developed hot-rolled W-IV steel sheet piles of WISCO have been successfully used for sewage system in Wuhan. The steel sheet piles in this project behave quite well and the quantity reaches a record high in the application of such material in WISCO, reported the press-centre of WISCO.
The steel sheet pile is energy-saving and environment-friendly construction material. Its interlocks make a solid wall to facilitate excavation construction in a safe and convenient way. It can be reused and it has the top priority for constructing material for cofferdams, docks and reinforcing dams. Looking back to the 1990s when the steel sheet piles began to be used in China, due to the complex technology and difficulty in controlling the quality stability, the domestic manufacturers rarely engaged in the production of hot-rolled steel sheet piles. The application mainly relied on importing or domestic cold bending.
Since the revamping of heavy-rail production line of WISCO in 2008, many trials on rolling the steel sheet piles have been conducted under the instructions of SMS SIEMAG from Germany, but none of the trials suceeded. In February last year, WISCO independently designed the pass schedule and achieved final success in developing the hot-rolled W-IV steel sheet piles, which has filled the gap in China, The steel market was in the downturn after the breakthrough in steel sheet piles, and due to the reusable feature of such material, the domestic market mainly focused on consuming the imported inventory. WISCO could not give a full play to the production, sales and application of steel sheet piles.
In May, 2012, after piling along the West Lake earlier this year, a construction company ordered additional 1200 tons of W-IV steel sheet piles with the cut-length of 11m, which would be used in the sewage system in Dongxihu district, Wuhan. The steel sheet piles can be reused over ten times in this 5 km long sewage system. Generally speaking, the steel sheet piles can be reused fifteen times at most. Currently, compared with steel sheet piles provided by other suppliers onsite, the product of WISCO can retain soil and water better without bending and leakage, which has been highly appreciated by the construction team onsite. The application of W-IV steel sheet piles of WISCO in the project is considered the largest one in quantity. WISCO will take this opportunity to further expand the market of steel sheet piles both at home and abroad.
