Severe Drought Affected 90% of Areas Cultivated Crops in Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2012. This was stated by the Premier at a sitting of the government. He noted that lack of rains and hot temperatures in June and the beginning of July caused severe drought in Moldova and the ratio of rainfalls to evaporated moisture fluctuated between 0.3 and 0.4.
This juncture is pending for consideration at a sitting of the governmental commission on emergency situations. At the sitting the current situation is to be described, projects are to be made and proposals will be put forward to minimize losses of the crops. The government has to assume consolidated measures.
The Premier charged Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta to discuss the situation in the agricultural sector with EU representatives in order to speed up allocation of the additional grant of 38 mln euros promised to Moldova under the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. Despite the difficulties the Ministry of Agriculture should remain calm and act in line with the plan, basing on priorities set, Vladimir Filat stated.
He also stressed that working out a state irrigation and water management strategy has to become an utter priority for Moldovan authorities which can resort to help of Israeli companies in this matter. The irrigation problem requires integrate approach, Vladimir Filat emphasized. He also stood for more effective risk insurance in Moldova and attraction of a greater number of international insurers to our country.
