OREANDA-NEWS. July 05, 2012. Tashkent hosted a business forum on the theme of “Day of German Economy”.

The event was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Representative office of German economy in Central Asia and the German economic club.

It was attended by the heads of ministries and departments, companies and concerns of Uzbekistan and Germany responsible for the spheres of trade and industry, investment, insurance, oil and gas, banking and financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, automotive, agriculture, water management, chemical and food industry, high technologies, logistics, transport and transport communications, electronic products, furniture industry, light industry, geology, information technologies, production of construction materials and others.

Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Alisher Shaykhov stressed that relations between Uzbekistan and Germany are gradually developing along with other spheres also in trade-economic sphere, an important legal basis of which served the arrangements reached during meetings of heads of the two states.

It was stressed that the forum also serves to create new opportunities for further development of mutual trade and economic as well as investment ties.

The guests got acquainted with a large-scale privatization process ongoing in Uzbekistan, reforms consistently carried out in the country’s economy, changes in the development of small business and entrepreneurship, favorable conditions created for investors in the free industrial economic zone Navoi and the special industrial zone Angren.

Uzbek-German economic and trade cooperation is developing dynamically. In the first quarter of this year, the volume of trade amounted to USD 118.1 million. In Uzbekistan, there are 123 joint ventures created with the participation of German capital and 47 representative offices of firms and companies of Germany. They operate in such spheres like light industry, medicine and pharmaceuticals, research, trade, processing of agricultural products, freight, passenger transportation and car service.

An exchange of views took place on further development of trade between the two countries, economic and investment cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, oil and gas, engineering, construction, logistics, electronics, banking and finance, information technologies and further increase of the involvement of German companies in the privatization process in our country.

Taking into account the economic potential and opportunities of Uzbekistan and Germany, a particular attention was paid to further increase the volume of trade turnover and the number of joint ventures.

Cooperation exchange with the participation of the representatives of a number of companies and enterprises of Uzbekistan and German business circles was held in the framework of the event.
