WISCO Begins R&D on Magnetic Yoke Steel
OREANDA-NEWS. July 04, 2012. It is reported on 24th by Hot Rolling Plant of Wuhan Iron and Steel Company Limited that the trial production of 750 MPa high-strength magnetic yoke steel has been successfully conducted, which is the highest level for magnetic yoke steel in domestic market. The first batch of products had been deliveried to the end user a few days ago, reported the press-centre of WISCO.
WISCO is the first steel company in China which begun the R&D on magnetic yoke steel. After 15 years of production and development, WISCO has produced more than 100,000 tons of magnetic yoke steel and is capable of producing a full range of grade and specification for magnetic yoke steel to satisfy the requirements of domestic electromechanical industry well. In recent years, a number of hydropower station projects with large installed capacity had been launched.
Among these projects, BaiHeTan and WuDongDe hydropower station have dozens of power units with single-unit capacity even higher than those in The Three Gorges hydropower station, which put forward higher requirements on the strength and shape of the magnetic yoke steel. Targeting on this market and dedicated to change the situation that this market was highly relied on importing, the Hot Rolling Plant and WISCO Research Institute jointly began the R&D for high strength magnetic yoke steel above 700 MPa strength level.
In the trial production, the plant conducted a series of optimizations and adjustments on temperature control, mill load distribution to satisfy the user's strict requirements for shape. It checked up all the quality equipments in finishing line and focused on recovering the function and precision of equipments. In the trial-production, the products were side-trimmed for twice in slitting line and cross-cutting line and the trial production was successfully finished. The test result has indicated that the parameters such as strength level, magnetic property and shape fully meet the requirements of the user.
